How to make Scrunchies: DIY Ankara Scrunchies

The scrunchies from the 90’s are back in fashion! It’s funny how fashion is circular: it changes and resurfaces after a few years. So the lesson here is do not make fun of a trend, cos you might find yourself rocking it 5 years down the line.

Scrunchies are perfect for your first sewing project since they require only straight stitches, and they are a great way to use scraps as I have done with these ones. I made my scrunchies from Ankara scrap fabric but these stylish scrunchies can be made with just about any fabric, from silk to velvet. If you’re a beginner, we recommend starting with cotton, as it’s an easier material to work with

Here is a video I made for you on how to make a scrunchie. Like all my videos. it is just a few minutes long, colourful, fun and straight to the point as I know you are busy 🙂
